Helping Mental Health in a Retirement Community

BACKGROUND
Red Dot Digital Media recently wrapped up a project with a retirement community in Florida, where a creative application of AV is being used to improve the mental health of those who work, visit and live in the community.

SOLUTION
Shell Point installed a therapeutic enclosure in the lobby – people enter and spend about five minutes browsing video content that includes a combination deep breathing exercises, introspection techniques, faith-based content and other calming videos. Red Dot developed the content using Wallboard’s CMS, paired with a Bluefin touch-interactive display with BrightSign Built-In to drive the interactive experience.

IMPACT/DATA
People rate their stress level upon entering and exiting the enclosure. Data from the first few months of use shows stress reduction ranging from 20-27%, so it’s making a positive, measurable impact on the mental well-being of those who enter and experience the enclosure.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Digital content that entertains and informs is not new, but using it to improve the mental well-being of those who live, work and visit this retirement community is a great use of technology to improve lives.
