Starbucks has added an item to its mobile menu and it’s not a new frappe flavor…
At this Lower Manhattan location of the ever present coffee chain Baristas can now point to a digital screen that provides order status to users of its mobile app.
The screen is fed by a software system which uses a barcode scanner to capture the order information contained on beverage cups or or food item bag stickers. Once scanned the information populates a 55 inch screen where orders are displayed as “Ready” next to the customer’s name.
The system is a prototype in pilot phase at 14 Starbucks locations nationwide. No word on whose screen or software is powering the back end. It’s yet another example of #digitalsignage technology enhancing the customer experience in the #QSR vertical.
