Most of us in the industry (both AV and digital signage) know that “things” tend to slow down after Thanksgiving. This is the perfect time for you to focus on you. This should be family time as a first priority but also time carved out for professional development. The products or services you provide and the company you are employed by may well change. You are the constant and the value you bring resides in who you are, what you know, and what you can provide. Investing in (and arming) yourself with specific knowledge and expertise is what will serve you well over the long haul and all the constantly shifting tides. An apt variation of the old saying “If you don’t have time to do it right do you have time to do it over?” consider this relative to you and professional development “If you don’t do it now when will you do it?” …..

There are a lot of options and paths but one example of an opportunity to expand your professional horizons is attending the upcoming Digital Signage Experience (DSE). Yes it is a trade show but a lot more than exhibitors and show and tell. The following are but a few elements the DSE provides that support your quest for professional development in digital signage…

  1. You need to introduce yourself to the Digital Signage Federation the voice of the industry.
  2. You need to get a recognized industry certification. To stand out in the crowd of those who look-alike you need to be seen as a specialist.  In digital signage the recognized industry certification is the DSCE.
  3. You need to “mingle” with people whose agendas and projects are digital signage.
  4. You need to listen to experts who will share what they know and how it applies to you.
  5. You need to interact directly with vendors who may have solutions to the problems you face.
  6. You need to attend the Dizzie Awards to see the best of the best in digital signage.
  7. You need to take a break and tour the “Disneyland” of digital signage which is Las Vegas.

You can do all of the above and more at the upcoming Digital Signage Experience (DSE) where you can refresh your ideas and yourself!

Words to the Wise:

It all kicks off with industry recognized certifications (the ultimate professional development). These take place before the exhibit floor opens so you won’t miss a thing. On Saturday December 7th there is the Digital Signage Certified Experts (DSCE) and on Sunday December 8th there is the Digital Content and Media Experts (DCME) each conducted by Jonathan Brawn the co-creator of the DSEG (DSEG.org) industry certifications. Below is the link to the registration…hope to see you there.
